A clearance runs fastest when the crew can walk straight in and start carrying. Twenty minutes of preparation the night before typically saves an hour on the job.
The night before
Set aside anything staying in the property and put it in one room with the door shut — that single step prevents almost every mistake that happens on a clearance. Then deal with parking and keys.
- Bag up documents, keys, jewellery and photographs
- Reserve a parking space or arrange a visitor permit
- Confirm who is letting the crew in and when
- Take meter readings if the property is being handed back
On the day
You do not need to stay for the whole job. Most customers show the crew round, point out what stays, and come back at the end for a walk-through. Pets are best kept in a closed room or off-site while doors are propped open.
